Press Releases Written by Computer

When I was a young pup in PR (that was eons ago), there was a vague notion that computers (there were only mainframes then) could/would write press releases.
Now, decades later, the Associated Press has announced it plans to use automation technology from a company called Automated Insights to produce stories about earnings reports, as reported by Poynter, the website that documents doings in journalism.
The data for the stories will come from Zacks Investment Research, not from company-produced press releases. Computer-enabled writing of key PR content seems to have arrived, endorsed and employed by the leading producer of syndicated news stories.
Next step: acceptance by the SEC of the automated release as meeting mandatory requirements for disclosure.

John P. David, President, David PR Group wrote a provocative piece in Huffington Post asking, in effect, "Should disruptive technologies or business models such as the Uber ridesharing service employ disruptive PR strategies?"
The article explains the standard PR approaches for building customer and community acceptance, but doesn't recommend any disruptive PR strategies except to let self-perpetuating publicity roll on.
